Death Race (2008, United States)

Death Race 2008 car movie

Running time: 105 minutes

Language: English

Economic crisis lead the American prisons to be taken over completely by private companies. Soon the owners of the prisons came up with idea how to make some more money on running the facilites - they organize popular televized races in which the convicts are competing again each other on tricky course in abandoned industrial area. To spice thing up they are armed. The winner of the competition may win a ticket to freedom. Jensen Ames, average Joe working in a steel company, loses his job and soon is arrested for killing his wife. Owner of the prison offers him a deal - he can replace Frankenstein, the star of the show, who always covers his face and thus no one actually knows who he is. Unfortunately Frankenstein has died and Ames would be perfect to take his place.

Futuristic car race movie that presents a world in style similiar to Mad Max, but set in televized show inside a prison. It is remake of 1975 movie Death Race 2000. Despite lack of realism and cheesy main plot of brilliant driver arrested for crime he did not commit, it is rather decent piece of entertainment. Don’t expect much and the movie won’t disappoint you.
