Test Drive Unlimited (2006)

2006 racing game set in the magnificent scenery of Oahu Island, Hawaii, where we can take part in diferent types of races - time races, races against opponents in cars of the same group, transporting passengers, packets or luxury cars. Also one of the goals of the game was to explore the island and find every little bit of the roads there. Due to open-world rules and whole island available for exploration it’s hard to get bored with the game.

With each event completed (race or transport mission) we get money that we can spend on buying cars and houses where the cars will be kept. The wide range of cars is split into 7 groups (A to G) represent vintage cars (group G), small hatchbacks, family saloons, to the sport cars and supercars (group A). Each car has slightly different characteristics and it feels when you drive them - some of them are a little bit sluggish, other are agile and fast, you can choose a car you prefer and even improve its characteristics (apart from classics).

Some of the races are time challenges, some to get the top speed on speed traps, some to win be first at the end of the route, but there are also races in which the one that is last at the end of a lap is eliminated from the race. One of the best things in game are the long distance races (including the route the gets the player around the whole island).

The game had a lot interesting bits, but lack of weather changes was a bit of a letdown. In multiplayer options there is also a chance to create your own races, test them and then compete against other users.
