Volkswagen BeetleDesigned as "people’s car" - affordable and universal car for the family of 2+1 - in 1950s and 1960s became one of the symbols of its times. Who haven’t seen the Beetle painted in psychadelic colors and driven by long-haired hippies?
The origin of the car is still in dispute - although Ferdinand Porsche is credited for being the designer of Beetle the shape of the car is obviously taken from Tatra V570 designed in Czechoslovakia by Hans Ledwinka and Pal Jaray.
Why is it legendary?
Along with its bigger brother Volkswagen Bus it became the symbol of not only hippies, but became part of our culture. Their simple construction and universal style made them perfect as all-around cars. They were taxis, police cars, were used on airports and hospitals. They were the most popular and most stylish city and compact cars for over 60 years.
