Fiat 126

Introduced in 1972 as the replacement of popular Fiat 500 this model wasn?t a good looking car, nor in any way special. It was produced in Italy and was reasonably well received compact car. As other Fiat products it was reasonably priced, simple and easy to mend. But what made the change was the idea to create a brand Polski Fiat (literally Polish Fiat) and to start manufacture the car under licence in Poland. Fiat 126 was manufactured in Italy for 8 years, but Polish version (marked as Fiat 126p) was manufactured for almost 30 years.

Why is it legendary?

One look at the car can ensure you that it wasn?t the look of the car that made it legendary, quick look at the parameters will guarantee that it wasn?t the quality. What made the car so remembered is that fact that in the middle of Cold War it was the "western" car produced in the communist country. Produced in Poland it became one of the most popular cars in several countries of the Eastern Block (like Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria) and often was exported to such countries as Egypt, India, Libya and others (it was very popular in Australia). Between 1970s and year 2000 it was almost impossible not to see one on the streets of Eastern Europe.
